Silver City, New Mexico

By |April 17th, 2014|

Silver City, New Mexico March 30 – April 2, 2014 We arrived at Rose Valley RV resort in Silver City, NM and immediately felt unsure if we needed a whole week here. The park was nice but the vibe was somehow off. Deciding to give it a chance we drove downtown to check things out. Silver City is where Billy the Kid grew up, where his mother died, and where he was thrown in jail from which he successfully escaped.  As we have been in Billy territory before we were not surprised to see little evidence to this elusive personality besides that of verbal legend. The town is unique in that you can go downtown to shop for groceries at an organic co-op, buy beautiful handmade art by local artists, and eat dinner at an upscale restaurant while people watching bikers at a hole in the wall bar across the street. In other words all kinds of people mix in this place. Hippies, foodies, bikers, and old ladies all seem to walk hand-in-hand down the historic streets of Silver City. It’s called Silver City because as you could have probably guessed, there is silver in them hills, along with the massive mines to prove it. While in this area we also visited the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. After a two-hour drive up and down winding mountain roads following the Trail of the Mountain Gods we had the great treat of wondering amongst the remaining cliff structures left by the Mogollon peoples. The cliff contains the ruins of interlinked cave dwellings built in five cliff alcoves all with views that are amazing. These people had it figured out. Sustainable, low impact, [...]

RVenture Lesson #1

By |August 31st, 2013|

RVenture lesson #1: Check the big bad bus at least 2 weeks prior to departure because something will likely be in need of repair. Somedays it seems like it is two steps forward, one step back. Today we started to load the monster truck and discovered that the AC in the 'old' Ford was not working. So, after a sweaty drive back to the RV shop, we found out the compressor is blown and needs to be replaced. Therefore, we may be starting a little later then planned. Due to the holiday, everything is closed this weekend. And in order for Atreyu to be 'cool' again we need to set up a meeting between him and our local Ford dealer. I hope he is rocking a solid mustache, all mechanics worth their weight in wrenches have good mustaches. We are chomping at the bit at this point. We both just want to head out. On a positive note we have been getting a ton of last minute stuff accomplished! Once the AC is working and a new rock-guard is installed we will be on the road. Baby you a song, you make me wanna to roll my windows down and cruise. On a more serious note, GO DAWGS!

Go Shopping!

We usually don't encourage compulsive online purchases but if you click through our amazon link (from here on out it will be on the blog page side menu) you'll never hear a peep from us. Everyone knows that travel is not free and neither is time spent blogging. Actually that is free but only because we know you would never pay us for it. So here is a solution that is easy for you and may help us out a bit. It won't make us rich but it may end up buying us a beer or two. We shall see. So here is the scoop by making your purchases through our affiliated amazon link, and not just going straight to amazon, we will get a small fee from amazon for the purchases you make. You pay nothing extra! What we earn is not much but if enough of you buy enough crap like we all know everyone does, then maybe we will get something out of it. Share this link like the "six degrees of separation" attitude and we will be buying a small company called Google soon! Just kidding but as the saying goes, every penny helps.  Anywhere you see an Amazon link on this site will be a link to a better purchasing experience! <iframe src="" width="234" height="60" scrolling="no" border="0" marginwidth="0" style="border:none;" frameborder="0"></iframe>

We are packing up!

By |August 17th, 2013|

We are starting to place things we love in boxes to be taped up. This is always the hard part and by hard I mean it is a ton of boring work. Did you know that’s why man made wine, for times like packing up all your belongings for an indefinite amount of time. Oh well… cheers and pass me the tape.
